A coffee shop at 8:30pm on a Saturday night

Everyone is speaking too loud
in order to be heard over the music
which is an overbearing weight
throughout the room.

The air of affluence smells
of coffee beans and
soft hands and sweatless days.
I don’t think anyone in this room
has wanted for anything
for more than a few hours.
Lucky enough are we all,
to live in an age of instant information
coupled with endless gratification
creating a blissful human experience
outside of anything one
could have ever imagined.

Yet, we still cry.

Pain has not been eradicated.
Children still die of cancer,
children too young to learn spelling
have learned how to take their own lives.

We have the technology to save
lives, we just need to get a
prior authorization
from the insurance company.

Just something to think about
while you sip a decaf coffee
on a Saturday night.
