Poetic range
has nothing to do
with dubious diction
or metaphysical merit.

Can you make them
cry and smile
in between stanzas,
make them feel?

It’s one thing to pen
prose with professionals
in mind.
There is merit to that.

But personally,
my work calls for empathy
over esotericism.
