Time and Place

Yesterday

choices made out of your control
dictated how you could feel.
They taught you to hide until found
then lunge at any who came close.
Left you alone for so long
that when they returned, you’d changed.
They stopped loving you,
so you forgot how to be loved.

One day

you’ll be so busy functioning,
there’ll be no time to worry.
Days spent in bed by choice,
instead of necessity.
Tiny little hiccups
will stop overwhelming you.
You’ll meditate and workout
and earn money and make them proud.

Today

I am neither future or past.
Doing my best to live in today.
Let my heavy past lighten,
my fearful future alleviate.
Remind myself how far I’ve come
without focus on how far to go.
Learning to love others
as I learn to love me.
